The final major of the year and two weeks of high-caliber tennis action are only hours away for spectators.
The two favorites to win the trophy at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center are Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic, especially following their epic final in Cincinnati one week ago, where both players competed in one of the best and most exciting three-setter finals in recent memory.
The world No. 1 and No. 2 will have to contend with other outstanding players who will be competing in the New York tournament and hoping to get to the finals, including Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev. Taylor Fritz, Casper Ruud, or Jannik Sinner.
The three US Open kings are Federer, Sampras, and Connors.
While Djokovic holds the record for winning the most Grand Slam tournaments in the history of the men's game, he doesn't own the record most New York victories during the Open era.
The Serb, who is willing to win his 24th major title, has won the US Open three times (in 2011, 2015, and 2018), defeating Juan Martin Del Potro, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer in the process.
Rafa Nadal, one of his greatest adversaries and a 22-time major champion, has won four matches on the hard courts at New York (2010, 2013, 2017, and 2019), which is a record shared by John McEnroe.
Roger Federer has won the most medals at the US Open, though, out of the Big Three. With five victories (2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008), the Swiss master is tied with Pete Sampras and Jimmy Connors for the most titles in the competition.
Only three men have amassed more victories than them, and they did so when they were amateurs: Bill Tilden (1920, 1921, 1922, 1923, 1924, 1925, 1929), William Larned (1901, 1902, 1907, 1908, 1909, 1910, 1911), and Richard Sears (1881, 1882, 1883, 1884, 1885, 1886, 1887).
